Things keep getting better! Young Professionals set the bar high on their second annual forum and we are already looking forward to next year! Over 70 people gathered to listen to four stimulating speakers and then interact with other young professionals around tables. The energy in the room could be felt as people shared and laughed — and enjoyed good Kenyan coffee! (Perhaps that was the cause of the energy.)
So-Young Kang engaged the whole group with her winsome style of responding personally to each questioner. She spoke about transformation and told stories of her consulting company in Singapore: How they have helped companies transform their working environments into places that are less like cookie-cutter factories and more “human.” She told a moving and motivating story of how she moved from being a demanding boss to being a human boss when she stopped trying to be a leader and just tried to be “whole”.
Thomas Lee shared about how he discovered excitement at work by recognizing that “less is more” and how his decision to risk a position in a lower paying job eventually led to him opening his own company giving him great flexibility to travel throughout the world encouraging small groups of believers (and later selling the company giving him even more freedom).
Steve Sakanashi and Andy Game spoke about the need for more entrepreneurs in Japan and some of the steps being taken to equip young Japanese to take on this challenging role. Each presentation was accompanied by professional quality visuals put together by the excellent team of creative people at 7MEDIA. The day concluded with a panel discussion in which the four speakers faced challenging questions from the floor, pushing the speakers to make concrete practical suggestions for those present who earnestly wanted to make their work environments places of human flourishing.
ABOUT YOUNG PROFESSIONALS
I love what the Young Professionals are doing in japan. They are truly pioneering by tackling topics to challenge status quo and expand the minds, hearts and visions of japanese professionals. They are a creative agency that is using relevant tools like social media and film for 21st century to catalyze a better world.
[Young Professionals] is like Joshua in the bible with God’s command:
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
It is exciting to be part of you. You are at the cutting edge of the new generation!
